Presentation Summary -

I thought the presentation given was actually pretty interesting. I picked up on some new ideas that I hadn't known of before:

Soviet montage- Sergei Eisenstein: each shot is a brick and a unit of meaning. You put them together to collide and create new meanings.

Pairing different images creates different meanings. “Hitchcock demonstrates montage” of Kuleshov’s experiment. Image of woman holding a baby + man smiling = nice, sympathetic man. Woman in a bikini + same man smiling = creeper.

Eisenstein’s goal was to create the idea of a thesis and disrupt a narrative. Based his collisions on scale, volume, rhythm, color.

Week 2 Glossary Definition: "Equipment for Living"

In one word: Literature-- because "it serves as a storehouse of proverbial wisdom" that is useful in eternally recurring situations.
